14 January 2024 Week #68: The Book of Mormon is TRUE!

Dear Family and Friends,  Week #68 1/8/24-1/14/24 It sounds like winter has arrived back home with a vengeance. We always look forward to watching the ball games and wrestling matches. It looks like we won’t get to do that this week. Apparently, this storm has a lot of wind. We pray that all those who do travel will travel safely. It is still warm here close to the equator; however, Saturday was the coolest day we have seen here at 80 and a breeze. It felt okay as we were out and about. In Baguio City up north and a higher altitude they did get frost. So much for global warming. I think the Lord is in charge of the weather and we need to have a great appreciation for Him and what He wants us to learn. We got a couple projects passed through our Humanitarian Team meeting on Monday and hooray, they also passed through the WSR meeting on Friday. So, we have a couple projects to implement now. We have another on hold while SSHJM get their DSWD accreditation. Then we will be able to ...

7 January 2024 Week #67: Now or Never! So we choose NOW!

Dear Family and Friends,  Week #67 1/1/24-1/7/24 Happy New Year!! We did not stay up late to bring in the new year. However, Sister Garner, the Heaths, and the Eppersons did. They watched the city get lit up with firework shows at midnight. Sister Garner videoed about 10 minutes of it for us old duffers, the Welches and Teicherts. It was a good show. I’m still glad I enjoyed it on camera instead of in person that late at night. We worked a couple shifts at the Giving Machines on New Years Day. The mall wasn’t packed like on Christmas day. There were still quite a few people there though. That evening we had a FHE dinner at Italianis. It was a going home dinner for Elder and Sister Parker. They are headed home to England. It has been fun to get to know them. They have wonderful English accents. They have strong testimonies of this great work. She has done a great job as the medical advisor in the Cebu East Mission. We had three Elders and three Sisters over for Taco Tuesday. It wa...

31 December 2023 Week #66: We love God's Children

Dear Family and Friend,  Week #66 12/25-12/31 Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!!! We had a wonderful Chirstmas Day sleeping in and spending four hours in the evening at the Ayala Mall and the Light the World Giving Machines. In between those events we spent time visiting with family and watching a couple Christmas movies. If you have never seen these two movies, they are a must. #1-Christmas Jars. It is on BYUtv and it is an excellent movie. #2-Window Wonderland. It is a hallmark movie that we watched on YouTube. It is a typical hallmark movie where the two main characters that will fall in love are identified early in the movie. This is the only movie I have ever seen the lead actress in, and she does a great job. He never gets uptight about anything, but she does. Usually, they both experience that emotion. He is full of one-liners, so be ready for that. It will then throw you a couple curveballs that are not typical predictable hallmark movie outcomes. If you want a good ho...

24 December 2023 Week #65: Merry Christmas!!

Dear Family and Friends, Week #65 12/18-12/24 Last Monday we presented two projects and neither one of them passed. We have more work to do. One of them is for a school out in the mountains where they need cement floors instead of mud or dirt depending on the weather, and they don’t have electricity, so they need solar help. Just when we thought we had it ready we find out we didn’t ask enough questions. It is difficult when you are doing something that you don’t know how to do, and you don’t even know what questions to ask. We hope we get the problems solved and get this project passed. This third-grade sports brain of mine just can’t think of all the things to solve problems in construction. Now, we don’t meet again until January. We only had one meeting in December. Our questions need to be answered by school people and they are out for Christmas break also. So, we don’t know when we will get the questions answered. With the other project, “Sisters of the Sacred Hearts of Jesus an...
