14 January 2024 Week #68: The Book of Mormon is TRUE!

Dear Family and Friends,
Week #68 1/8/24-1/14/24

It sounds like winter has arrived back home with a vengeance. We always look forward to watching the ball games and wrestling matches. It looks like we won’t get to do that this week. Apparently, this storm has a lot of wind. We pray that all those who do travel will travel safely. It is still warm here close to the equator; however, Saturday was the coolest day we have seen here at 80 and a breeze. It felt okay as we were out and about. In Baguio City up north and a higher altitude they did get frost. So much for global warming. I think the Lord is in charge of the weather and we need to have a great appreciation for Him and what He wants us to learn.

We got a couple projects passed through our Humanitarian Team meeting on Monday and hooray, they also passed through the WSR meeting on Friday. So, we have a couple projects to implement now. We have another on hold while SSHJM get their DSWD accreditation. Then we will be able to do that one. We have three others that we are waiting for vendors to price out for us. We have one other we are needing our boss’s permission on, and we can’t figure out the delay.

We finally were able to get into our financial system and record our finances over the last two months. We have been locked out since November. They had only given us permission for a year. It has taken two months to get permission again. We submitted all receipts and are waiting for approval by our boss. Our church credit card is marked as non-compliant and has been for over a month now. Finally, they are aware of what most of you have known for years, “Non-compliant Teichert”.

It has been a different week in a lot of ways. Some things are the same. We had a great temple session on Friday afternoon. Three more young men were receiving their endowments and some young women. Clyda finished up 194 Kangaroo Tubes and we took them to Vicente Sotto Hospital on Saturday. We took the Koyles to the market on Saturday morning. The Taylors took the temple van and had 10 others from the temple group go with them, so we took our truck. After the projects passed on Friday, I spent the rest of the day and almost all-day Saturday preparing DOD’s for the 4 schools on the Anilao Schools project and a MOA for the Cagdarao Elementary School project. Between entering these projects into CHaS, after they passed the Monday meeting, and then doing more items in CHaS and preparing DODs and a MOA I have had some long hours.

Today was a wonderful Sabbath Day! Our meetings were great. In Priesthood and Relief Society the topic was “Think Celestial” by President Nelson from the October conference. This past week has been fun studying the Book of Mormon. What an incredible book. I listened to President Nelson talking about how with computers, spell checkers, and a couple other technical things, to translate the Book of Mormon into another language they can only do about a page a day. To think that the Prophet Joseph with a third-grade education (although third graders are the best) translated the Book of Mormon in about three months is incredible. That is translating about 8-10 pages a day. If you have never listened to the talk “Profile of a Prophet” by Hugh B. Brown, check it out. Probably the greatest talk I have ever listened to. I’m amazed at all the things that give me an intellectual knowledge of the divine calling of the Prophet Joseph Smith, the Book of Mormon, being one of them. But, as Hugh B. Brown said, (I paraphrase) “Under girding and overarching all the rest, I KNOW Joseph Smith was a prophet of God by the whisperings of the Holy Spirit.” I add my testimony to that. It is by the whisperings of the Holy Spirit that I know these things are true, also.

Tomorrow evening Clyda and I are in charge of the FHE lesson. We have chosen the Book of Mormon as our topic and have asked everyone to come with a quote from President Ezra Taft Benson on the Book of Mormon. I am excited to hear their responses and testimonies.

President Benson’s talk, “The Book of Mormon-Keystone of Our Religion”, given in the October 1986 opening session of general conference is an incredible talk. I will never forget the power in that talk. There are so many great points in that talk, warnings, and promised blessings. If you haven’t read it, please read it. It is powerful. However, what stood out to me the most then was, (and he was quoting Marion G. Romney from a talk given in 1980) “I feel certain that if, in our homes, parents will read from the Book of Mormon prayerfully and regularly, both by themselves and with their children, the spirit of that great book will come to permeate our homes and all who dwell therein. The spirit of reverence will increase: mutual respect and consideration for each other will grow. The spirit of contention will depart. Parents will counsel their children in greater love and wisdom. Children will be more responsive and submissive to the counsel of their parents. Righteousness will increase. Faith, hope, and charity-the pure love of Christ-will abound in our homes and lives, bringing in their wake peace, joy, and happiness.” WOW! That was what I wanted for our family. We made a commitment then to read from the Book of Mormon daily. Even camping, traveling the Alaska Hwy, traveling to Palmyra, wherever we were, we would read from the Book of Mormon each day. It wasn’t always convenient or easy. We still had children that got upset with some of our decisions, and I made some poor ones in dealing with my children. However, I can never recall any of them talking back or not doing what we asked them to do. I hope they all know that my whole purpose in reading from the Book of Mormon each day while they were living with us was because I had a testimony of a living prophet, of Joseph Smith, of the Book of Mormon, of Jesus Christ, and trying to pass that on was more important to me than anything else. I wanted someday for them to have the same desire, to have a testimony of their own and a commitment to live the gospel the best they could. It is TRUE! This is his work, “To bring to pass the immortality and Eternal Life of man.”
