7 January 2024 Week #67: Now or Never! So we choose NOW!
Dear Family and Friends,
Happy New Year!!
We did not stay up late to bring in the new year. However, Sister Garner, the Heaths, and the Eppersons did. They watched the city get lit up with firework shows at midnight. Sister Garner videoed about 10 minutes of it for us old duffers, the Welches and Teicherts. It was a good show. I’m still glad I enjoyed it on camera instead of in person that late at night.
We worked a couple shifts at the Giving Machines on New Years Day. The mall wasn’t packed like on Christmas day. There were still quite a few people there though. That evening we had a FHE dinner at Italianis. It was a going home dinner for Elder and Sister Parker. They are headed home to England. It has been fun to get to know them. They have wonderful English accents. They have strong testimonies of this great work. She has done a great job as the medical advisor in the Cebu East Mission.
We had three Elders and three Sisters over for Taco Tuesday. It was a great meal and wonderful conversation. Five good Filipino missionaries and one good American, Sister Hogan. She is from the Ogden area. I can’t remember which high school. She is doing great. We had some good Book of Mormon discussion and testimonies shared on how that is helping them as missionaries. The Lahug Sisters are back living with the Apus Sisters. We took that scary drive to take them home. It has been a while. That is one narrow busy crowded street once you leave IT Park.
On Wednesday we had a meeting from 1-3 in the afternoon with Manila. That evening we were in on the Cebu Mission transfer call. Missionaries are headed home and new missionaries will arrive.
We are busy trying to get last minute items done for about five projects that we want to have completed before we go home. I don’t know if we will get this pulled off or not. Some projects you don’t mind leaving for the next couple. Some are just too detailed you don’t want to have to leave It up to them to finish up our mess. And some are just very interesting and you want to complete them just for fun.
On Thursday our daughter Taffy had surgery on her broken wrist. We hope the healing will go well and from what we understand both Tami and Tyson are coming along real well. As my dad once said when we had a young family and I needed his help to give Tyson a blessing before taking him to the emergency room as a baby, “When you have a family our size there is always someone that needs special prayers.” Amen.
Friday started with another meeting with Manila and then a day of trying to get things buttoned up on projects. The only problem is that I have poor communication skills and we need responses to questions to continue.
On Saturday we just decided we are going ahead with a couple of these projects even if we haven’t received all the information we need. It seems like it is now or never to get a couple of these passed.
Sunday has been a beautiful day. In Sacrament Meeting the first five to share their testimonies were five older gentleman in the ward. It was neat to see the men step up to the plate, pulpit, and testify. I also like how the bishopric member who conducts always ask the members to please limit their testimonies to 2-3 minutes. I believe that helps from getting a lot of extra stuff that isn’t a testimony. They are pretty good here to follow that. Usually the only ones to take longer are visitiors. We also had a wonderful gospel discussion in Sunday School today about the coming forth of the Book of Mormon. Several neat testimonies were shared. Come Follow Up on BYUtv was really good also. We enjoy our gospel study together each day. We are excited about this study of the Book of Mormon. It truly is the “keystone of our religion”. Because of my sincerely reading and praying about this book the Holy Ghost witnessed to me that it was true. Then accompanying that testimony, I also received a testimony of Joseph Smith and this true church here on the earth. I am so grateful for this testimony. It has shaped my life and given me direction and meaning, with hope for Eternal Life with my family.
