13 August 2023 Week #46: We love helping the schools

Dear Family and Friends,
Week #46 8/7-8/13

We presented three projects, all simple school ones, Fernandez Perez Memorial National High School, San Julian Elementary, and Badlan National High School. They all passed along with several others. The Orencias presented three big wheelchair projects. All three were over $100,000 each, so they need SLC approval. The Haynes presented two large Day Care Center proposals for about 250 Day Cares each, so into the 60-70 thousand dollar amounts. They are very similar to what our Garcia Hernandez project was in the types of items provided. The Haynes just know how to go big. It would be like us having done ours for the whole island of Bohol.

It seems most of this week was just spent on developing projects, PDWs, Power Points, DODs and MOAs, etc.

On Tuesday evening we had Elder Zayas (from Los Angeles, CA) and Elder Erandio over for Taco Tuesday. It was a good evening. We shared spiritual experiences. Elder Zayas was on exchanges. He is a zone leader and not assigned in our ward. The other Elder is new to our ward. We will work with Elder Zayas on service hours for the elders on digging the hole for the septic tank at Lahug Schools.

On Wednesday evening the elders that Sister Heath had invited for dinner were sick and she had prepared quite a bit of food, so she invited us, the Eppersons and Sister Garner. It was a fun evening with great food and visiting.

On Thursday we had the sisters over, our Lahug sisters, Ramos and Alvez, along with a new Service Missionary and I can’t remember her name. She does quite a bit with Sister Manatad. Sister Manatad couldn’t come. We had chicken and vegetable soup with rice. They enjoyed it. Clyda sent both the Elders and the Sisters home with chocolate chip cookies.

On Friday we had 17 projects to cover. The leaders had other meetings, so we began at 7:00 (so we didn’t exercise) and went until 9:00, and then again at 1:00. All three of our projects passed. In between the two meetings we hurried to Haung Chu Hospital for me to get some blood and urine work done and an ultrasound on my stomach. We got back just in time for the second meeting. After that meeting we headed back to the hospital to get the lab results. Then we stopped in at the mission office to check with Elder Heath, our medical missionary. He then consulted with Johnlehi Surio. Brother Surio is the doctor that Elder Heath works with for our missionaries. Elder Heath, although a doctor for years in the US can’t get us prescriptions, appointments, etc. He has to work with a Filipino doctor. John Surio is a member of the church, a young doctor who just got married last December and just finished his last residency program. He is a doctor out on Camotes Island. I have a fair-sized stone in my bladder. I got some medication to shrink it and an antibiotic. We will hope the medication takes care of it.

On Saturday we helped for a bit at the mission office repackaging items for the missionaries. Then Clyda and I walked on down to Ayala Mall. We went to Dairy Queen and got a blizzard. We caught a taxi back home.

On Sunday the Kangaroo Tubes were returned. We went to the monthly Stake Relief Society meeting. All the wards but one brought back the tubes and then we took them to Rabbi Rabanes. He will screen print “The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints” on to each one of them. He is a member of the church. His grandparents and mother joined the church in 1969 when there were very few members here in Cebu. Their family has seen a lot of changes and growth in the church here from one small branch in Cebu to six stakes now. WOW!
